Biography

Gregory BAÔO’s work explores visual memory and the way certain figures continue to inhabit the collective imagination across generations.

Working from archival imagery, the artist investigates how icons of cinema, music, and popular culture persist through time. These images, sometimes distant from

contemporary visual culture, are carefully selected and recomposed in order to reintroduce them into the present.

Through the intervention of material, color, and light, the original image is transformed. The meticulous application of crystals creates a vibrant surface in which light becomes an active element of the work. The image is no longer simply observed; it gradually reveals itself depending on the viewer’s position and perception.

In several works, fragments of text inspired by the words or universe of the portrayed personalities are discreetly embedded within the composition. These elements

introduce a narrative dimension and invite a more attentive reading of the image.

Through this process, Gregory BAÔO proposes a contemporary reinterpretation of images that belong to our collective visual memory, reviving the presence of cultural icons and reconnecting their stories with the gaze of today.
